Student Attendance

The foundation of Academic Success is rooted in attendance. If students are not present in school on time to their classes, it will be much harder for them to achieve their education goals. Although our students are growing into adulthood and becoming more independent, families still play a vital role in ensuring their student participates and/or gets to school every day. Click the button below to view a great resource that we encourage all parents/guardians to read.

If a student accumulates more than NINE (9) unexcused absences in total it could put them in the RED ZONE for attendance success. Please reach out to our Dean of Attendance if support is needed for your student.

Continuous absences, truancy, and/or tardiness to classes/school will result in consequences that could include loss of school privileges such as school dances, field trips, graduation tickets, internships, etc… Additionally, the parent/guardian of a truant student could potentially be fined up to $500 as part of IL’s School Code.

REMINDER: Missing FOUR (4) classes in a single day counts as ½ day absence and missing FIVE (5) or more classes in a single day is considered a Full Day absence.

Excused & Unexcused Absences

Excused Observance of a Religious Holiday
Excused Death In The Immediate Family

Excused A student’s parent or legal guardian is an active duty member of the uniformed services and has been called to duty for, is on leave from, or has immediately returned from deployment to a combat zone or combat-support postings.

Students who are absent for other reasons may be considered Truant (AUX) and will not have their absence listed as excused.

All Absences (Excused or Unexcused) will be reported on official school transcripts.

Reporting a student absence

Method 1

E-Absence

(Preferred Method)

An exciting new feature is on Aspen Parent Portal: E-Absence! E-Absence allows parents/guardians to submit and track your student’s absences online. That means no more making last-minute phone calls or completing paper forms. You can also submit past dates on Aspen as well. Our Attendance Dean will Approve or Deny any requests.

Method 2

Call the Main Office

(Ms. Llorens, Attendance Dean (773) 534 2110)

Call Sullivan High’s Main Office BEFORE 9 AM and leave the following info:

  • Student’s full name (spell out last name)
  • Your student’s CPS Student ID#
  • The date of your student’s absence
  • Reason for the absence
  • Your name
  • A contact number in case there are follow up questions

Due to confidentiality concerns, email communication remains an invalid communication method to report a student absent.

Early Dismissal Process

*Parents/Guardians, please give yourself 15 minutes to complete this process. Please have your ID with you to confirm your identity.

You are unable to submit an Early Dismissal on the E-Absence Report

Students under the age of 18 MUST be picked up by an Emergency Contact who is listed in Aspen prior to their arrival

  1. Our Attendance Dean is located within the Main Office. Enter the building through Door 4, check in with Security, (PLEASE BRING A VALID ID), inform security of the name of your student.
  2. Security will radio for another security officer on the respective floor/area that the student is located, that officer will retrieve the student and send them to the entrance.
Notes:

Failure to complete an Early Dismissal on the day of dismissal will result in an unexcused absence.

Absences that are excused will be coded on Aspen as A-E (Absence Excused)

If, after successfully completing the Early Dismissal, there is still an A (Absence Unexcused) please reach out to Ms. Llorenz for next steps.
