LSC Meeting – April 24, 2020

I. Call Meeting to Order

The meeting was called to order at 10:12 a.m.

II. Roll Call

Mr. Thomas, Mr. Berrol, Ms. Chrisp, Ms. Evins, Ms. Guijosa, Ms. Lorenz, Ms. Mosak.

A quorum was present.

III. Approve Agenda 

The Agenda was unanimously approved, with an addition of CTE announcements.

IV. Approve Previous Minutes: 

The Minutes of the February 21, 2020 and April 3, 2020 LSC meetings were unanimously approved.

V. Principal’s Report:

State of the School

Update on the state of CPS, Sullivan

  • Food is being given out every day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Phones/chromebooks have been made available to students, along with hotspots for those without internet access at home. A small number of students is picking up paper work from the school.

Capital Improvements 2020- 2021 Update

  • Plans are moving forward. The contractor’s timeline starts June 18, with preliminary work done before that. An elevator, new windows and a new roof from Roofing World will be installed, all classrooms will be patched and painted, and all lead and asbestos will be removed.

CIWP

  • Work continues on the three priorities: multi-tiered system reports (academics and SEL), structures for continuous improvement (professional growth, collaboration) and family/community engagement. This needs to be completed June 30.

LSC Opening

  • There are 4 parent vacancies.

Academic Updates

Remote learning

  • Plans are posted on the website, Sullivanhs.org.

Testing

  • Tests are cancelled for this year.

Athletics

  •   Sports are cancelled. 

Friends of Sullivan

  • The group is working on ways to continue to support the school, including activating alumni contacts and putting out a newsletter, aiming to increase donations.

Arts and Activities

  • The “Electives Dept.” teachers have decided to rename their department “Art and Wellness” (includes fine arts, music, and PE).

Other Updates

  • Mr. Thomas is waiting for guidance from CPS regarding graduation. Meanwhile several options such as Facebook Live, slide shows etc. are being considered as a way to honor seniors in June.

VI. New Business

Budget

  • Next year’s budget has not yet been released. When it is an LSC meeting will be needed for approval.

Teaching and Learning

  • An LSC vote on the CIWP is needed by June 30.

Operations 

Virtual 5K Dreamers Run – Fundraiser

  • There was unanimous approval for amending the Dreamers Run to be a virtual 5K run.

Budget Spend Down

  • Last year ~$10,000 was approved for athletics. This year money was moved from the athletic transportation line to athletics sports supplies, for a lump sum of $3,214.19. The breakdown is:
  • Boys Baseball: $966.39
  • Boys Soccer: $360.00
  • Girls Basketball: $1,020.00
  • Girls Soccer: $540.00
  • Girls Volleyball: $327.80

Technology

  • A vote will be taken at the next meeting on the use of funds for purchase of more SMART Boards, and/or replacing teacher laptops.

Principal Evaluation – Ms. Evins will take the lead on facilitation – Due June 30th

  • Ms. Evins is waiting for the rubric and evaluation key from Central Office; the evaluation is to be completed the first week in June.

CTE announcements

  • Sullivan took first place in many categories, as well as some second and third places at the state competition and is advancing to national and international forums.

VII. Public Comments

The next regular LSC meeting will be Friday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m.

Principal evaluation meetings will be scheduled separately; tentatively, set for April 30 at 2:00.

A budget meeting will be scheduled once the budget becomes available.
