V. Principal’s Report:

State of the School

  • Capital Improvements 2020-2021: The contract for the capital improvements work has been awarded and is now in procurement. The elevator, new exterior windows, and other ADA improvements are included.
  • C.I.W.P: At a one-day retreat at Loyola the Instructional Leadership Team looked at root cause analysis of why certain things are not working, and how they can be fixed. Also, Ms. Evins, Ms. Hart and Mr. Cepeda met to make sure parents families have more access to the school besides Parent University. An unofficial survey will gather information about parent needs.

LSC Opening – Parents need to be actively recruited.

Academic Updates – Remote learning starts April 13. Teachers have developed plans, ideally to be worked on with parent guidance, for each grade level, ESL and low incidence students. New chromebooks will be available April 13 for students who need them, and packets will also be distributed for those without internet access. Teachers will be available online for content and office hours. There will also be a schoolwide hotline that can be accessed by phone or computer. Grading will begin again April 13. This will be an opportunity for students to boost their GPA as, if assignments are done, grades can only go up; if work is not done it will be graded “incomplete.” Students in dual credit courses will get credit if coursework is completed.  Also as of April 13 the school will be a food distribution site.

Testing – Tests are cancelled for the rest of this year.

Athletics – Sports are cancelled for the rest of this year. It is not known if the Park District will be open for the summer. If there are athletics and clubs over the summer they will meet at Kilmer, as Sullivan will be closed for capital improvements.

Friends of Sullivan – They now have their official 501 (c) (3) nonprofit status.

Arts and Activities – N/A.

VI. New Business

  • Budget – The school budget will be available after spring break; the spend-down of $225,000 from Fund No. 115 will be considered in detail at the next LSC meeting.
